Two drafts, one problem

Two kinds of draft usually arrive for this service.

One was written by the customer and let down by its English. A sentence carries three ideas. A paragraph opens on one claim and closes on another. A citation sits where it cannot support the point it is meant to prove. This is common when English is a second language. It is just as common when a deadline forced the writing into one late night.

The other draft was produced with an AI tool, read back, and not trusted. The wording is smooth. The reasoning is thin. Some claims are larger than the evidence underneath them, and the essay sounds more confident than it has earned.

Both drafts need the same kind of attention. Not proofreading. Proofreading catches spelling, punctuation and local grammar. These drafts need someone to ask whether the paragraph is doing the job the assignment set for it.

Why software cannot repair this

A rewriting tool predicts plausible wording. That is not the same as academic editing.

The fault in a weak draft is often not the wording. It is the choice of claim, the order of the argument, the way evidence is used, or the gap between the research question and the method. A tool can vary sentence length and swap common phrases. It can make a flat sentence sound more fluent.

It cannot know which claim the marker will question first. It cannot see, in a reliable way, that the fourth paragraph contradicts the second. It cannot ask whether the method described would actually answer the research question that was set. It does not know your module brief, your field, or the kind of evidence your department expects unless a human reads those things and makes decisions from them.

What a subject specialist changes

The work looks different in each field.

In a literature review on Victorian fiction, a weak draft might spend a page describing a plot before making a claim about narrative voice. A literature specialist would cut the summary, bring the claim forward, and connect the cited passages to the critical argument rather than leaving them as decoration.

In a psychology lab report, a draft might describe a survey on sleep and anxiety, then discuss the results as if the study had proved causation. A psychology editor would correct the level of claim, check that the method matches the research question, and make the limitations section do more than apologize for a small sample.

In a business case study, a draft might name Porter, SWOT and PESTLE in three separate paragraphs without using any of them to explain the firm’s decision. A business specialist would choose the framework that fits the case, remove the unused theory, and tie the analysis to the numbers and facts in the case material.

The point is not to decorate the draft with academic language. The point is to make the argument answer the question in the terms your subject uses.

A paragraph before and after

Here is the kind of paragraph that looks acceptable at first glance and then collapses when read for argument.

Social media has affected young people in many ways and it can be positive or negative depending on how it is used. Many people spend a lot of time online and this can cause problems for their mental health because they compare themselves to others. There are also benefits because young people can communicate and find information. This shows that social media is a complex topic and more research should be done.

The grammar is not the main problem. The paragraph does not define young people. It does not say which platforms or which kind of use it means. It moves from time online to comparison to mental health without proving the link. It balances positives and negatives even if the essay question may not ask for that balance. The final sentence could fit almost any essay on any topic.

A stronger edit would make the claim narrower and show how the evidence is being used.

For adolescents aged 13 to 16, the strongest mental health concern is not screen time by itself but repeated social comparison on image based platforms. The studies cited in this section do not prove that social media use alone causes anxiety. They do show a consistent association between frequent comparison, lower self esteem and higher reported anxiety symptoms. The paragraph therefore treats social media as a risk factor shaped by use pattern, rather than as a single cause.

The edit did four things. It narrowed the group, named the mechanism, corrected the strength of the claim, and made the paragraph answer a researchable question. The language is cleaner because the thinking is cleaner.

Why detector scores cannot be promised

Detectors do not agree with each other.

The same file can score differently on two of them on the same afternoon. Each system was trained on different text. Each draws its line in a different place. Each reads probability, not intention.

The only reading that matters is the one your institution runs, and many departments do not say which system they use. Some use more than one tool. Some rely on a tutor’s reading first and software second. Some give students no usable information about the settings behind the report.

What comes back and when

You receive the edited draft and an originality report. The report is there so you can review the work with more information, not because any fixed score can be guaranteed. The returned work is model and reference work.

Deadlines start at 3 hours. Long work such as a dissertation can run to 20 days, 30 days or 2 months. A short deadline caps the number of pages the form allows, and you see that before payment.

Free amendments are available for 14 days after first delivery. For dissertations, theses, research proposals, thesis proposals and dissertation chapters, the amendment period is 30 days. A change to the original brief is treated as editing rather than an amendment.

Your draft still has to be your work

The edited draft has to be work you can stand behind in a viva, supervision or seminar discussion. If a supervisor asks why one source matters more than another, or why your method fits the question, the answer should still be yours.

That means the line of thought stays visible. The editor can make it more direct, repair weak structure, question overclaiming, and improve academic phrasing. The editor should not replace your project with someone else’s.

Do not use a humanizer first

Do not run the draft through an automatic humanizer before sending it.

It rewrites the surface and leaves the weak argument untouched. It reaches for words nobody in the field uses. It may turn a normal methods sentence into something strange enough that the editor has to spend time undoing it before the real work can begin.

Many institutions also treat the use of a humanizer as misconduct in its own right. That is your risk to understand before you use one.

If you have already used a humanizer, say so on the order. The editor needs to know what happened to the draft before deciding how to repair it.
